Quarterly State Citizen Corps Meeting

On April 16, Delaware held its Quarterly State Citizen Corps Councils Meeting, Angela Heim Community Preparedness Officer for FEMA Region III, was present and added many encouraging words of support to the council. She also provided guidance on State Citizen Corps Councils, the Gap Analysis and National Preparedness Month. The council is an oversight committee for the DE Citizen Corps which is made up of DEMA, Delaware National Guard, Delaware State Police, County Emergency Managers, American Red Cross, Medical Reserve Corps, Fire Corps, Communications Corps, Department of Education, University of Delaware, Office of Volunteerism, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), DEVOAD, American Legion, VFW, a Spanish Liaison, a few Businesses-Bank of America, Walgreens and others.

Sussex County CERT Training

The Sussex County Citizen Corps Council held CERT Training Day at the Sussex County Administrative Office. The main speaker was Larry Nierenberg from the National Weather Service in Mt Holly NJ, who gave Basic Skywarn Training to approximately 20 CERT Trained Citizens who are now trained Weather Spotters for Delaware and Mt Holly. Joe Thomas, Emergency Manager for Sussex County, also provided the group with a presentation on Emergency Management procedures for the county.

Bank of America Business CERT

On March 26 2008, The State Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) with assistance from the Wilmington OEM taught a Business CERT Class to the Bank of America in Wilmington. This was the third Business CERT class for BoA, 35 members were in attendance the POC was Andy Ziegler.
